What is Enemy Property Act?

Kishan Thakkar K

Due to the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971, many people moved from India to Pakistan, and the Government of India took over the properties of those who acquired Pakistani citizenship under the Defense of India Rules framed under the Defense of India Act.

The Central Government transferred these enemy properties to the Custodian of Enemy Property for India.

According to the amendments, once a property is vested in the Custodian, it shall continue to be vested in him as enemy property regardless of whether the enemy, enemy subject, or enemy firm ceases to be an enemy due to reasons, such as death, etc.

Enemy property in India is managed by a government department called the Custodian of Enemy Property for India. There are also movable properties designated as enemy properties, which are owned by the Custodian of Enemy Property for India.
