In India, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation was responsible for reducing urban poverty, providing housing, and promoting employment.
The Ministry coordinates with Indian central ministries, state governments, and central sponsors on national policy decisions. It was created in 2004 after splitting off from the Ministry of Urban Development.
Urban development and housing as well as urban poverty alleviation were merged into the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in 2017.
