5 Vastu Signs to Look for Before Buying a Flat

Vastu shastra is also known as the “science of architecture” and is a traditional Indian system of architecture originating in India. Vastu Shastras incorporates traditional Hindu, Buddhist beliefs and principles of design, layout, measurements, ground preparation, space arrangement, and spatial geometry.

The term Vastu Shashtra has originated from the Sanskrit term “Vastu”- which means the site or foundation of the house, site, ground, building, or a dwelling place. The underlying meaning of the term Vaas is to live, dwell, stay and reside. The aim behind following the principles of Vastu is to tap high energy levels within occupants of a home and harness positive energy towards enhancing professional, personal and spiritual well being.

The principles of Vastu are also governed by Lord Kuber as he is the bestower of wealth and richness and he is considered to be the wealthiest of all gods and goddesses.

Let us briefly look at some of the defects and how can they be cured according to Vastu.

Defects: Toilets constructed in the northeastern direction.

East, north, and north-east-facing homes are most auspicious: You must have seen that the living rooms are often in the north or the northeast position or the slope of the plots or borewell of the house are in the northeast direction. The reason for the same is that

the earth is constantly tilting in the Northeast direction at a speed of 1070 miles or 1670 kilometers per hour.

North and Northeast zones should neither be obstructed/cut nor closed.

The northeast zone must neither be cut nor closed. It is mainly because the northeast corner receives energy during the early morning due to the tilt of the sun. Therefore, the construction buildings and things inside the buildings should not be against this motion.

Every obstruction and space that increases negative energy such as toilets, shoe racks, and any bulky furniture items must be immediately removed from the northeast direction.

The north-east direction is governed by Lord Kuber and any obstacle in this direction implies obstacles in the flow of wealth and prosperity into the house. If the obstacle cannot be removed, an aquarium or a small fountain should be placed towards the north of the house which serves as a good remedy.

Further, Vastu also suggests not to have any pillars or tall trees in the northeast direction of the house as it hampers the growth of family members and leads to stress.

Maximum cleanliness should be maintained in the northeast direction and any broom or mop should not be placed in this direction.

Remedy: Northeast and east are the best directions to have the entrance as the same brings good luck and positivity.

Staircases and elevators opposite the main entrance should be avoided as they make the entry of hurdles easy.

Remedy: To rectify this defect, an Ashtakon or eight-sided mirror on the main entrance can be placed on the main entrance.

Vastu principles suggest that the land on which the house/apartment is built should not be irregular such as a triangle or hexagon and should be in either square or rectangular shape. Further, flats facing any dead-end in the road should be avoided.

Remedy: If the land is irregular, the plot can be corrected by dividing it into two parts making the residential one square or rectangle and separate compound portions should be constructed for both portions. To cure the defect of the plot due to irregularity, shops, garages, a small temple, or a garden can be constructed on the irregular part.

Kitchens should be located either towards the north-west or southeast direction.

All the objects inside the kitchen represent fire, so gas stoves, cylinders, microwave ovens, toasters, among other appliances should be placed in the south-east part of the kitchen. Also, these items should be placed in a manner that will compel a person to face the east while cooking.

Flats painted in black, red, or dark colors are avoidable.

Remedy: Serene, peaceful colors like white, light brown, yellow and orange colors should be preferred.

It is believed that the toilet room should be located mainly towards the west or south so that it does not contaminate the solar energy. The toilet rooms must be located mainly towards the west or south.

Remedy: The door of the toilet must be wooden and it should be a two shuttered door that opens inside.
