According to the government, the Ease of Living Index is an assessment tool that evaluates the quality of life and the impact on urban development of various initiatives that have been introduced in order to increase the quality of life. There were more than 32 lakh respondents across 111 cities in a survey titled ‘Citizen Perception Survey’, representing 30% of the total number of people participating in the survey.
Among Indian cities, Bangalore ranked the top, followed by Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai and Surat, according to the government’s Ease of Living Index.

According to the report, only three state capitals rank among the ten most livable cities. To determine the ease of living index score, four parameters were evaluated – quality of life, economic ability, sustainability, and citizens’ perceptions. Bangalore received a score of 66.7 out of 100 on the ease of living index, followed by Chennai with a score of 62.61.
