We all have experienced traffic jams in Ahmedabad city. You’re driving along the way to the office or the home and suddenly traffic comes to a standstill. Then after inching along what seems like an eternity, roads start to open again as if by magic.

It can be frustrating and dangerous to become a part of a traffic jam. There is a simple reason for the traffic jam and that is there are more people on the road, both driving and walking. There are not enough roads to keep up with demand.

We will first understand the reasons behind the traffic jams.

What Causes Traffic Jams?

There are many reasons for traffic jams in metro cities, but below are a few of the most common ones.

  1. Many of the traffic slowdowns are caused by temporary traffic flow disruptions, like sudden accidents, construction zones, weather conditions, etc.
  2. The other slowdowns are caused by recurring congestion. They are more predictable as they occur at specific times of the day when there are too many vehicles on the road.
  3. It is also due to poor public transportation that traffic issues occur. The lack of public transport and poor schedules of transit cause people to purchase more private vehicles, contributing to traffic jams.
