Specifically, the dispute involves the ownership of a plot of land in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, which is regarded among Hindus to be the birthplace of the Hindu god Ram, who is believed to have been born there.

It is believed that the Babri Masjid was built on the site of an ancient Hindu temple.

The issue begins with

Babri Masjid was destroyed by Hindu kar sevaks on December 6, 1992, triggering communal riots throughout the country. At least 2,000 people died as a result of the riots.

There have been various legal proceedings brought by both sides over the past few decades.

The court’s involvement
